Counselling transforms challenges

into pathways for growth and renewal.

what you can expect

Your journey with Holistic Counsel begins with a thorough evaluation process. This initial step is crucial in understanding your unique situation and developing a personalized treatment plan. What happens during the evaluation:

  • An in-depth discussion about your concerns, history, and goals

  • Assessment of your current mental health and well-being

  • Exploration of any relevant medical or family history

  • Identification of your strengths and support systems

Duration: Typically, the evaluation process takes 1-2 sessions, each lasting about 60 minutes.Outcome: By the end of the evaluation, we'll have a clear picture of your needs and will collaboratively develop a tailored counseling plan to address your specific challenges and goals.Remember, this evaluation is a two-way process. It's not just about us gathering information, but also an opportunity for you to ask questions and ensure you feel comfortable with our approach.

  • Specific goals for your counseling journey

  • Recommended therapeutic approaches

  • Frequency and duration of sessions

  • Any additional resources or support services

We ensure that this plan aligns with your needs and preferences, adjusting as necessary throughout your counseling experience.

a gentle beginning
with Matthew Greene

As the lead counselor at Holistic Counsel, I understand how tender the initial evaluation process can be. It's often the first step in a journey that requires courage and vulnerability. That's why I approach each evaluation with care, empathy, and respect.Creating a Safe Space: From the moment you step into our office, my goal is to create an environment where you feel comfortable and heard. We'll start at your pace, discussing only what you're ready to share.Collaborative Discovery: Together, we'll explore your concerns, hopes, and goals. This isn't about ticking boxes on a form – it's about understanding your unique story and perspective. I'll ask questions, but I'll also listen intently to what you're saying (and sometimes, what you're not saying).Honoring Your Strength: Seeking help is an act of bravery. During our evaluation, I'll help you recognize the strengths and resources you already possess. These will be valuable assets in your healing journey.Looking Forward: While we'll discuss your past and present challenges, our evaluation will also focus on your aspirations. What does healing look like for you? What changes do you hope to see? Your vision will guide our path forward.Remember, the evaluation is just the beginning. It's an opportunity for us to get to know each other and start building the trust that's essential for effective counseling. My approach is always to bring out the best in you, helping you tap into your innate resilience and potential for growth.

  • My teenage child doesn't want to come to counselling. What can we do?
It's not uncommon for teenagers to be hesitant about counselling. Here are some suggestions: Open a dialogue: Talk to your teen about their concerns. Listen without judgment and address any misconceptions they might have about therapy. Offer choices: Let them have a say in selecting a counsellor or the type of therapy. This can help them feel more in control. Start with a trial session: Suggest attending just one session to meet the counsellor, with no obligation to continue if they're uncomfortable. Lead by example: If you're open about your own experiences with therapy or self-improvement, it can help normalize the process. Explore alternative formats: Some teens might prefer online counselling or group sessions with peers. Remember, forcing a teenager into counselling rarely leads to positive outcomes. At Holistic Counsel, we're happy to discuss strategies to help engage reluctant teens or explore family counselling as an alternative approach. The goal is to create a supportive environment where your teen feels comfortable seeking help when they're ready.
  • What if I'm unhappy with the counseling service I receive?
At Holistic Counsel, we're committed to providing high-quality care and value your feedback. If you're unsatisfied with any aspect of our service, here's what you can do: Discuss with your counselor: Often, concerns can be resolved through open communication. Your counselor is trained to handle feedback constructively. Request a different counselor: If you feel you're not connecting with your current counselor, you can request a change. We'll work to find a better match for your needs. Speak with our practice manager: For concerns you feel uncomfortable discussing with your counselor, or if you're unsatisfied with the response, our practice manager is available to address your concerns. File a formal complaint: We have a formal complaint procedure in place. You can request details from our front desk staff. Seek external support: If you feel your concerns aren't adequately addressed, you can contact professional bodies like the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) for guidance. We take all feedback seriously and use it to continually improve our services. Your well-being and satisfaction are our top priorities, and we're committed to resolving any issues promptly and professionally.
  • How long would I be expected to attend therapy?
The duration of therapy varies greatly depending on individual needs and goals. Here's what you can expect: No one-size-fits-all approach: Every client's journey is unique, and we tailor our approach accordingly. Short-term therapy: For specific issues or short-term goals, therapy might last 6-12 sessions. Longer-term support: More complex issues or deep-seated patterns may require several months to a year or more of regular sessions. Ongoing evaluation: We regularly assess progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed. Client-driven process: You have a say in how long therapy continues. We'll discuss your progress and goals regularly. Flexible scheduling: As you progress, we may reduce session frequency or move to a maintenance phase with less frequent check-ins. Open-door policy: Even after concluding regular therapy, you're welcome to return for "booster" sessions as needed. Remember, the goal is not to create dependency, but to equip you with the tools and insights to navigate life's challenges independently. We'll work together to determine the most beneficial course of therapy for your unique situation.
